The historic monument was constructed in 1931. Edwin Lutyens had started
designing the India Gate to pay homage to the Indian Soldiers who lost their
lives in the World War I and the Afghan War. Children Park, lush greenery and
the boating clubs are some of the things that are considered as an ideal place
for the evening out. Close to the gate is an empty canopy that used to hold a
statue of George V, currently removed to Coronation Park. India Gate is
approximately few minutes from the Parliament and Rashtra pati Bhavan.
Following India's independence, the India Gate became the site of the Indian
Army's Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, known as Amar Jawan Jyoti ("the flame of
the immortal soldier").
Today it attracts thousands of tourists from all
over the world. The India Gate has also witnessed anti-graft march, candle
march and several public demonstrations.

राष्ट्रपति भवन से लगभग कुछ मिनट की दूरी पर है। भारत की स्वतंत्रता के बाद,
इंडिया गेट भारतीय सेना के अज्ञात सैनिक के मकबरे का स्थान बन गया, जिसे अमर जवान
ज्योति ("अमर सैनिक की लौ") के रूप में जाना जाता है। आज यह दुनिया भर से हजारों
पर्यटकों को आकर्षित करता है। इंडिया गेट पर भी भ्रष्टाचार विरोधी मार्च, कैंडल
मार्च और कई सार्वजनिक प्रदर्शन हुए हैं।
